International conference on air pollution and climate change

2023 16 - 19 January in Muscat Oman.

“INTRODUCTION

Short-lived climate pollutants are potent climate forcers that persist in the atmosphere for a fraction of the time that carbon dioxide (CO2) does, but have the ability to warm the atmosphere many times as much. Certain short-lived climatic pollutants are also deadly air pollutants, wreaking havoc on human health, ecosystems, and agricultural production. The short-lived climatic pollutants black carbon, methane, tropospheric ozone, and hydrofluorocarbons are the second largest contributors to the man-made global greenhouse effect, accounting for up to 45% of current global warming. If no action is taken in the future decades to limit these pollutants' emissions, they are estimated to account for up to half of the warming caused by human activities. Additionally, numerous scientific studies have established conclusively that rapid and considerable reductions of highly potent Short-lived climate pollutants are required to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius by the end of the century. Recent modeling studies concluded that reducing short-lived climate pollutants will help avoid an average global warming of 0.6°C by 2050 and halve the current rate of global warming. Despite the international commitment in the Paris Agreement to keep global mean temperature rise below 2°C and strive for 1.5°C, mounting evidence indicates that CO2 emission reductions alone will not be sufficient to halt or significantly slow climate change in the coming decades, necessitating "rapid reduction" of the short-lived climate pollutants. Each year, almost 7 million people die prematurely as a result of indoor and outdoor air pollution. The majority of the responsibility is placed on climate pollutants with a short lifetime. Rapid action on major sources of short-lived climatic pollutants, such as widespread adoption of clean technology, has the potential to avert around 2.4 million fatalities each year. The International Conference on Air Pollution and Climate Change will bring together prominent academic scientists, researchers, and research scholars to exchange ideas and research results on all areas of air pollution and climate change. A renowned interdisciplinary venue for researchers, practitioners and educators to present and discuss the latest developments, trends, and issues in the domains of Air pollution and Climate Change.
